| India's Biggest Nuclear Tender Yet |
India’s nuclear energy sector is poised for a major leap forward as Anushakti Vidhyut Nigam Limited (ASHVINI), a joint venture between NPCIL and NTPC Limited, prepares to invite bids for the Nuclear Island Mega EPC Package (NIMEP) for the Mahi Banswara Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (MBRAPP) Units 1–4.
Valued at more than ₹28,000 crore, the package is expected to be the largest Nuclear Island Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract ever floated under India’s indigenous 700 MWe Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR) programme.
The scope of work includes engineering, manufacturing, supply, civil construction, installation, testing and commissioning support for critical nuclear island systems across four reactor units, each with a capacity of 700 MWe.
Industry experts view the project as a significant milestone in India’s efforts to expand nuclear power generation while strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities. The initiative is expected to create substantial opportunities for engineering companies, equipment manufacturers, technology providers, construction firms and MSMEs across the country.
The project also aligns with India’s long-term vision of achieving 100 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2047, supporting the nation’s clean energy transition, energy security and net-zero ambitions.
As India accelerates its nuclear power programme, projects such as MBRAPP are expected to play a crucial role in building a self-reliant nuclear ecosystem and positioning the country as one of the world's fastest-growing nuclear energy markets.
