St Philomena College Marks World Day Against Human Trafficking
Puttur, July 31: St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur, observed the World Day Against Human Trafficking with a programme jointly organised by the Anti Human Trafficking Club and the Department of English. The event highlighted the importance of awareness, value-based education and collective action to prevent human trafficking.
Presiding over the programme, Rev. Dr. Antony Prakash Monteiro, Principal of the college, said every person has the right to live with dignity and respect. He stressed that education should not only provide knowledge but also nurture human values and social responsibility. He called upon society to work together to eradicate human trafficking.

The resource person, Mrs. Sreemani, Coordinator of the PG Department of Social Work, spoke about the causes, consequences and prevention of human trafficking. She explained how women, children and other vulnerable groups often become victims of trafficking and said that awareness, education and community participation are the strongest tools to prevent exploitation.
As part of the programme, Rev. Dr. Monteiro administered an anti-human trafficking pledge, reaffirming the participants' commitment to protecting human dignity and fighting trafficking.
Dr. Bharathi S. Rai, Head of the Department of English and Member Secretary of the Anti Human Trafficking Club, and Dr. Edwin D'Souza, IQAC Coordinator, were present on the dais.
The programme was attended by Vice-Principal Dr. Vijayakumar Moleyar, Registrar (Academics) Dr. Norbert Mascarenhas, faculty members and students.
The event began with an invocation by Manasa and Aparna. Vindhyashree Rai welcomed the gathering, Sushma Wagle proposed the vote of thanks, and Aishath Jabeen compered the programme.
