Long Waits, Overcrowded Buses Add to Daily Travel Woes

Vitla, 30 July 2026 : The shortage of government buses in the rapidly growing Vitla town has become a daily struggle for students, workers and other passengers travelling towards Puttur and nearby areas.

On Monday morning (July 27), several students heading to Puttur had to wait for hours at the bus stop before a bus finally arrived. After waiting from 8.00 am to 8.50 am, hundreds of passengers rushed to board the bus, but only around 25 people could find space due to heavy crowding.

Women, men and school students were among those waiting for public transport. However, nearly 75 passengers, including students, were unable to board the bus because of overcrowding and were forced to wait for the next service.

Residents said this has become a regular problem in Vitla, where increasing population and growing daily movement have created a higher demand for public transport.

Passengers also pointed out that the existing bus shelter is too small, forcing many people to wait on the roadside while waiting for buses.

Commuters have urged the authorities and the transport department to increase the number of government bus services to ensure safe and convenient travel, especially for students travelling daily to schools and colleges.
