Army Doctor Turns Jhansi Platform into Delivery Ward with Hair Clip, Knife

Major Rohit Bachwala, an Indian Army doctor, heroically delivered a baby girl at Jhansi railway station using a hair clip and pocket knife. Read about his inspiring act.

Jhansi, July 6, 2025: In a genuinely remarkable moment at Virangana Laxmibai Jhansi railway station, Major Rohit Bachwala, a 31-year-old doctor with the Indian Army, pulled off an unexpected rescue. A woman traveling on the Panvel-Gorakhpur Express went into sudden labor and had to be taken off the train at Jhansi. With no standard medical tools in sight, Major Bachwala didn’t skip a beat—he grabbed a hair clip to clamp the umbilical cord and used a pocket knife to cut it, delivering a healthy baby girl right there on the station platform. Both mother and newborn were later moved to a hospital, and, thankfully, both are in stable condition.

Makeshift Maternity Ward on Platform

According to media reports, Major Bachwala, posted at Jhansi Military Hospital, was waiting for his Hyderabad-bound train when he noticed a woman in distress on the footbridge. Sensing the urgency and knowing there wasn’t time to get her to a hospital, he stepped in. Railway staff quickly pitched in, handing him gloves and setting up a privacy screen with a dhoti. “Without a proper operating room, I had to make do with what I had on me,” Major Bachwala told PTI. His quick thinking turned the platform into a makeshift delivery room, drawing praise from both bystanders and the woman’s family.

Nationwide Praise for Army Doctor’s Bravery

Major Bachwala’s quick action hasn’t gone unnoticed—the Indian Army and North Central Railway both praised his selfless move. The whole incident kicked off when the woman’s husband sent out an urgent SOS through the Rail Madad app, leading to her getting off the train in the nick of time. Railway staff wasted no time making sure she got to the hospital after delivering her baby.

News of what happened spread fast across social media. People all over India started calling Major Bachwala a “real hero,” and honestly, it’s well-deserved. His response didn’t just solve a crisis, it turned a scary moment into a story of hope—another reminder of the Indian Army’s real-world commitment to helping out when it counts.
