Puttur, August 3, 2025: Puttur Taluk is set to create a pioneering "Taluk Statistical Handbook" for the fiscal year 2024-25, drawing inspiration from the district's "District Statistical Outlook." This innovative project is a collaborative effort between the Statistics Department and the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, with the objective of amassing comprehensive data to facilitate regional development.
On August 2nd, a pivotal workshop was convened at the Puttur Taluk Panchayat Hall, where Sandhya K.S., the Planning Officer for Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat and Administrative Officer for Puttur Taluk Panchayat, underscored the importance of this endeavor. This gathering was orchestrated by the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department, in conjunction with the Zilla Panchayat. The event saw the participation of officers from various taluk-level departments and panchayat development, aiming to optimize and synchronize the data collection process for the upcoming handbook.
A Comprehensive Data Compilation
The handbook, set to feature over 900 indicators across 15 distinct categories and 76 comprehensive tables, is poised to integrate data sourced from a variety of authoritative bodies, including the Revenue Department, municipal corporations, and local village panchayats. Sandhya Rani, a key figure in this initiative, expressed her optimism by stating, "Puttur Taluk is well on its way to progress. This thorough statistical compilation will surely bolster its growth trajectory by offering actionable insights." His aim was to ensure both precision and uniformity in the information gathering phase. This collaborative training session is considered a vital milestone in empowering officials to amass and organize the extensive dataset that forms the backbone of the handbook.
Driving Development Through Data
The initiative emphasizes the significance of data-driven governance in rural regions. By integrating data from various government departments, the handbook's objective is to bolster informed policy-making and precise development strategies. Sandhya highlighted, "This marks a groundbreaking endeavor to spotlight taluk-level statistics, thus enhancing planning and resource distribution." The event commenced with Puttur Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer, Naveen Bhandary, initiating the workshop.
