Bengaluru, August 11, 2025: The vacant posts in government-run medical colleges will be filled only after the state government takes a clear decision regarding internal reservation, assured minister for medical education, skill development, entrepreneurship and livelihood Dr. Sharanaprakash Patil in the Legislative Council.

Responding to a question raised by member Manjegowda during the question hour on Monday, the minister said that retired High Court judge H.N. Nagamohan Das has submitted a report to the government on implementing internal reservation. This report has already been discussed in the cabinet meeting last week and a final decision is likely to be taken in the upcoming special Cabinet session.

Until the government finalizes its stand on internal reservation, the chief minister has instructed that no department should proceed with recruitment for any posts. “We cannot do anything until then,” Dr. Patil clarified.

There are a total of 21,860 sanctioned posts in medical colleges, out of which 9,413 have been filled, leaving 12,447 vacant, he said, providing statistical details. Despite these vacancies, there is no disruption in teaching for students in medical colleges or in treatment for patients at hospitals. The government has taken all necessary precautionary measures, he added.

Directors of medical colleges and heads of the respective hospitals have been instructed to appoint staff on an outsourcing basis wherever needed. Earlier, medical colleges in Yadgir, Raichur, Kalaburagi and a few other places faced staff shortages, but these have now been addressed. “No college or hospital is currently facing any problems. If any issue is brought to our notice, it will be resolved immediately,” the minister assured.
