Karnataka to Invite Scholarship Applications for Temple Staff Children
Bengaluru, Aug. 1: Children of priests and employees serving in Karnataka's notified temples are set to benefit from scholarship assistance, with Deputy Chief Minister and Revenue Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara directing officials to invite applications without delay as the new academic year has begun.
The direction was issued during a meeting of the State Religious Council held at Vidhana Soudha. Along with the scholarship announcement, the Deputy Chief Minister unveiled a series of measures aimed at improving temple administration, infrastructure and asset management across the state.
Dr. Parameshwara directed officials to purchase land in the name of 'A' and 'B' category temples, stating that temple-owned land would become a permanent asset and support future development works and better facilities for devotees.
He also instructed the Muzrai Department to install CCTV cameras on temple donation boxes (hundis) by the end of August to improve security and prevent misuse of offerings.
Expressing concern over the lack of basic amenities in several prominent temples, he asked officials to prepare master plans for infrastructure development and ensure that devotees receive better facilities.
The Deputy Chief Minister said 'C' category temples should not be handed over to private organisations in the name of development. Instead, he directed that 10% of the grants received by 'A' category temples should be used for the development of 'C' category temples.
He also ordered officials to identify and remove encroachments on temple lands on a priority basis. The Revenue Department has been asked to complete surveys and hand over the recovered properties to the Muzrai Department within three months.
Senior Revenue Department officials, Muzrai Commissioner Sharath and members of the State Religious Council attended the meeting.
