Puttur, August 4, 2026: Puttur will host a Mega Tiranga Yatra on August 7 as part of the Independence Day celebrations. The event is expected to attract more than 5,000 youths from across the constituency. Legislative Council Member Kishore Kumar Puttur announced the programme while addressing a press conference at the PWD Inspection Bungalow in Puttur.
The Tiranga Yatra will begin at 3 pm from Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple. It will pass through the town and conclude at Kille Maidan. A public meeting will be held after the march. The programme will be attended by BJP Karnataka President B.Y. Vijayendra, former minister C.T. Ravi, and several state and district leaders.
Message of Patriotism
Kishore Kumar said the main purpose of the Tiranga Yatra is to promote respect for the National Flag and strengthen the spirit of patriotism. He said the National Flag belongs to every Indian. Therefore, the yatra is intended to inspire people, especially the younger generation, to value the country's unity and freedom. He appealed to students, youths, former servicemen, social organisations and the general public to participate in large numbers.
A Symbol of Unity
Kishore Kumar said the Tiranga Yatra should become a bridge that unites people. He recalled that during India's freedom struggle, people from all communities, including Hindus, Muslims and Christians, stood together for the nation. Likewise, he said the yatra should encourage people to forget small differences and work together for the country's progress. According to him, the National Flag represents unity, harmony and national pride.

Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign
As part of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, he requested every family to hoist the National Flag at their homes from August 13 to 15. He also encouraged people to take a selfie with the flag and upload it to the official campaign portal.
'This is a Public Programme'
Replying to questions from reporters, Kishore Kumar and former MLA Sanjeeva Matandoor said the Tiranga Yatra is not a BJP party programme. They clarified that the event will not be conducted under the BJP flag or party symbol. Instead, it is a public programme organised under the Indian National Flag to spread the message of patriotism.
They also rejected reports of factionalism within the BJP in Puttur. "There are no two groups in the party. All BJP leaders are working together across the Puttur Assembly constituency," they said.
They added that as India moves towards the 100th year of Independence, such programmes are important to encourage patriotism and national responsibility among young people.
