World Coconut Day 2026: Two-Day Meet at ICAR-CPCRI Kasaragod- Check for Details

Kasaragod, 19 August 2026: World Coconut Day 2026 will be observed at the ICAR-Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI), Kasaragod, on Wednesday, September 2, with a two-day stakeholders’ programme focusing on the future of coconut farming and livelihoods.

The theme of this year’s programme is “Coconut in Times of Uncertainty: Securing Food, Energy and Livelihoods.” Event will bring together farmers, scientists, extension officials, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders to discuss challenges facing the coconut sector and explore opportunities in coconut-based enterprises.

Farmers and scientists to exchange ideas

A key feature of the programme will be an interaction between farmers and scientists, providing participants an opportunity to discuss field-level challenges, technologies and possible solutions.

An introductory training programme on entrepreneurial technologies related to coconut will also be organised. Organisers have also planned a stakeholders’ meet involving people and institutions dependent on the coconut sector.

Focus on climate challenges

Programme will include discussions on “Management of Extreme Climate Vulnerabilities in Plantation Crops”, highlighting the increasing challenges faced by plantation farmers due to changing weather conditions. Event will also feature an agricultural exhibition, providing participants an opportunity to learn about technologies, products and developments relevant to plantation agriculture.

SHITIJ 2.0 programme

As part of the programme, SHITIJ 2.0, an online mentoring and pre-incubation programme, will also be inaugurated on September 2. Participants are expected to include extension personnel from Agriculture and Horticulture Departments, progressive farmers, entrepreneurs, NGOs, startups, developmental agencies, Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), and directors of ICAR institutes and State Agricultural Universities. Inauguration will be conducted by Dr. K. Balachandra Hebbar, Director, ICAR-CPCRI, Kasaragod. 

Open participation with registration

Participation is open to interested farmers and stakeholders with prior registration. Programme will be held at PJ Hall, ICAR-CPCRI, Kasaragod.
