Puttur, 20 September 2026: Government should reach the doorstep of poor and rural families and respond to their problems, said Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai.

He was speaking after presiding over the Puttur Hobli-level Praja Seva campaign held at the Aryapu Gram Panchayat Hall on September 19. Ashok Kumar Rai said the Chief Minister’s vision is to make government services accessible to people. Government has established the Praja Seva Department to take services and grievance redressal closer to the people, he said.

Earlier, people had to visit government offices with their grievances. Now, government officials are coming to the people, Ashok Kumar Rai said. Officials from different departments took part in the programme and received grievances from rural residents.

Ashok Kumar Rai said around 80 per cent of the grievances are being addressed at the taluk level through such programmes. He also said previously submitted grievances that remain unresolved would be reviewed and action would be taken.

‘Service to the Poor Is Service to God’

Ashok Kumar Rai said many poor people may not be educated and may find it difficult to deal with government offices. Officials should respond patiently and help them understand the process, he said.

He urged senior officials not to show arrogance towards officers working at lower levels. Legislature alone cannot solve public problems, he said. Government officials, as part of the executive system, also have an important role.

“I have no personal hostility towards anyone. Officers should work sincerely for the people,” Ashok Kumar Rai said. He added that serving poor people is equivalent to serving God.

Seven Grievances Received

A total of seven grievances were received during the Praja Seva campaign.

The issues included:

  • A request for funds for an Ambedkar Bhavan at Munduru.
  • Road concreting at Hirebandady.
  • A request related to plotting and land measurement at Kuriya.
  • Non-payment of Gruha Lakshmi benefits.
  • Road concreting and construction of a retaining wall at Aryapu.
  • A complaint about land being excavated and creating a dangerous situation at Kuriya.
  • A request for a permanent PDO for Aryapu Gram Panchayat and construction of a solid waste management unit.

Grievances were referred to the respective departments for further action.

Grievances to Be Resolved Within 21 Days

Tahsildar S.B. Kudalagi, who gave the introductory remarks, said Praja Seva is an important initiative of the state government. Programme aims to receive public grievances at the village level and find solutions, he said.

Issues that can be resolved at the taluk level will be addressed locally. Grievances requiring action at the district or state level will be forwarded to the concerned senior officials, and a response will be provided, he said. S.B.Kudalagi said grievances submitted through the programme are expected to be addressed within 21 days.

Panch Guarantee Implementation Committee President Umanath Shetty Perne, Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer Naveen Bhandari and Aryapu Gram Panchayat Administrator and Taluk Health Officer Dr Deepak Rai were present.

Aryapu Gram Panchayat PDO Wilfred Lawrence Rodrigues welcomed the gathering. Revenue Inspector Chandra Naik compered the programme and proposed the vote of thanks. Officials from various Gram Panchayats under Puttur Hobli and taluk-level officers from different departments participated in the programme.
