Bengaluru, September 8, 2026: Karnataka is positioning itself as a major destination for clean-energy investment, with the State inviting investors, technology companies and industry leaders to participate in its expanding renewable energy ecosystem.

Energy Minister K.J. George said Karnataka is open to investments and partnerships across solar and wind energy, hybrid projects, rooftop solar, electric mobility, renewable energy manufacturing and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

Addressing the Bengaluru Roadshow for the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026, George invited investors and innovators to explore opportunities in the State.

“Come to Karnataka, innovate, invest and partner with Karnataka and build a greener, cleaner and more energy-secure India,” he said.

Karnataka’s 40 GW renewable energy milestone

George said Karnataka has established itself as one of India's leading renewable energy destinations, with more than 8.5 GW of installed wind power capacity and a strong record of innovation in renewable energy. He highlighted the Pavagada Solar Park as an example of Karnataka's approach to large-scale renewable energy development.

Minister credited the State's leadership and the support of Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar for making the Pavagada model a reality.

“What was once a dream has become a globally recognised model of large-scale renewable energy development,” George said. Pavagada experience, he suggested, demonstrates how renewable energy projects can combine large-scale power generation with economic opportunities for landowners and rural communities.

Investment opportunities go beyond solar and wind

Karnataka's clean-energy opportunity is no longer limited to conventional solar and wind projects. State is promoting solar-wind hybrid projects, rooftop solar, electric mobility, renewable energy manufacturing and battery storage, reflecting the changing requirements of India's power sector.

Battery Energy Storage Systems are particularly important as renewable generation varies according to the availability of sunlight and wind. Development of storage capacity can help integrate renewable electricity into the grid and make clean power available when demand is high.

Renewable capacity crosses 40 GW

Gaurav Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary, Energy Department, Government of Karnataka, said the State's renewable energy capacity had increased from around 26 GW to more than 40 GW, with approximately 4–5 GW being added annually. He said Bengaluru's strength in innovation-led manufacturing has helped Karnataka develop a wider renewable-energy ecosystem.

“Our partnership with MNRE has enabled innovative models such as PM-KUSUM Components B and C, bringing clean energy solutions closer to farmers,” Gupta said.

He also pointed to Karnataka's transmission infrastructure, policy reforms and investor interest generated during the last Global Investors Meet as factors strengthening the State's investment environment. “Karnataka is building more than renewable energy capacity—we are building an ecosystem where clean energy drives investment, manufacturing, innovation and jobs,” he said.

India targets 500 GW of non-fossil capacity

George said Karnataka's clean-energy expansion is aligned with India's national energy-transition ambitions. India has set a target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based electricity capacity by 2030. George said industrial development and energy security must progress alongside the transition towards a cleaner energy system. “Karnataka is fully committed to this transformative journey,” he said.

Centre stresses policy certainty

Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, said India provides investors with a clear pathway for the green-energy transition. He highlighted policy certainty and the manufacturing capabilities being developed across the renewable-energy value chain as important factors for attracting continued investment. He expressed hope that India would be able to bridge the gap between domestic capital availability and international financing requirements for the country's green-energy transition.

Bharat RE Summit in November

Bengaluru roadshow is part of the build-up to the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026, which will be held from November 2 to 5, 2026, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

Summit, organised by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, follows the success of RE-Invest 2024 in Gandhinagar. Event will be held alongside the 9th Session of the International Solar Alliance Assembly and the 4th International Conference on Green Hydrogen

Global policymakers, investors, industry representatives and innovators are expected to participate in the events aimed at accelerating India's clean-energy transition.

Mayank Tewari, Additional Chief Secretary, MNRE; Divya Prabhu GRJ, Managing Director, KREDL; and Akilur Rahman, Convenor, CII Karnataka Energy Transition Panel 2024–25 and Chief Technology Officer, Hitachi Energy, were present at the Bengaluru roadshow.
