Bengaluru, 11 September 2026: Karnataka State Higher Education Council has decided to organise a two-day international education summit in Bengaluru in January, while also initiating measures to address vacant posts, university land encroachments and the need for job-oriented courses.
Decisions were taken at the 25th General Council meeting of the Council, chaired by the Higher Education Minister and attended by the vice-chancellors of 32 universities.
Meeting focused on improving the quality of higher education and strengthening university administration. The Council also discussed measures to improve the academic standing and institutional functioning of universities across the State.
Among the key decisions was the proposal to introduce new employment-oriented courses in areas such as aviation, railway engineering and urban planning. The move is aimed at aligning university education with emerging employment opportunities and industry requirements.
Council also decided to take stringent action to clear encroachments on university land. In another significant decision, steps will be taken to expedite the recruitment process for around 1,000 vacant posts in universities.
A committee will be constituted to review institutions that have not obtained National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation. The meeting also proposed establishing Centres of Excellence using new technologies to promote academic development and innovation.

- University inspections: The chairperson said he would personally visit all universities in the State shortly to review their functioning and assess educational and administrative standards.
Higher Education Minister said that the government would work collectively with universities to improve their standards and reputation. “If the education sector deteriorates, the future of an entire generation will be affected,” he said, stressing the need for coordinated efforts to strengthen universities.
Minister also announced plans to visit universities across the State personally in the coming days to review their functioning and assess the implementation of reforms. Senior officials of the Higher Education Department were present at the meeting.
