New Delhi, 19 September 2026: Domestic LPG consumers who receive subsidy will face a new requirement from October 1, 2026.

Government has made Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) mandatory for booking domestic LPG refills at the regulated retail selling price with applicable subsidy. Move is aimed at ensuring that subsidised LPG reaches genuine and eligible households. It is also intended to help prevent the diversion of subsidised domestic LPG for commercial and industrial use and remove duplicate or ineligible connections.

89.9% Consumers Have Completed Authentication

Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said that, as of September 19, 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers, or 89.9% of the total, had completed biometric Aadhaar authentication.

These consumers do not need to complete the process again and can continue to receive LPG refills as usual. Consumers who have not completed the authentication can do so before October 1.

How to Complete LPG Aadhaar Authentication

Consumers have several options.

During cylinder delivery: The delivery person can complete the biometric authentication through the mobile application of the Oil Marketing Company.

At the LPG distributor: Consumers can visit their LPG distributor's showroom and complete the process.

Through the mobile app: Consumers can also complete e-KYC themselves through the respective oil company's mobile application. Indane: IndianOil ONEBharatgas: HelloBPCLHP Gas: HP Pay. Government has also made video tutorials available through the PMUY portal.

What Happens If Authentication Is Not Completed?

For consumers who are eligible for subsidy, biometric Aadhaar authentication will be required to book a refill at the regulated retail selling price with applicable subsidy from October 1. However, the government has stated that consumers who do not want to complete biometric authentication, or are unable to do so for some reason, will still have an option to obtain LPG.

Why Is the Government Introducing This?

Aadhaar-based authentication is being used to verify beneficiaries and improve the targeting of LPG subsidies. Government has previously said that Aadhaar authentication and de-duplication can help identify duplicate or ineligible connections and improve the delivery of targeted subsidies.

LPG Subsidy

Government is also providing financial support to keep domestic LPG affordable for consumers. According to the information provided for September 2026, the implied subsidy on a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder is around ₹210 per cylinder.

If you receive a subsidised domestic LPG refill and have not yet completed biometric Aadhaar authentication, it is advisable to complete the process before October 1, 2026.
