Puttur, 24 September 2026: A Girija Kalyanotsava will be organised at the Devarumaru paddy field of the Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple in Puttur in December.
The organisers said the event will be held for the first time in the history of Puttur. As part of preparations, prayers were offered wednesday (23 September 2026) at the Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple seeking the deity’s permission for the programme. Fruits and flowers were placed before the deity during the prayer.
Event is being planned by the Puthila Parivara Seva Trust. Organisers said the trust had earlier conducted Srinivasa Kalyanotsava for the past three years, bringing together a large number of devotees.
This year, the trust has decided to organise Girija Kalyanotsava as an offering to Sri Mahalingeshwara. The programme is proposed to be held at the temple’s Devarumaru paddy field in December. Organisers described it as a major religious event for Puttur.
A meeting of Hindu community members will be held on Sunday, September 27, as part of the preparations. A committee for the Girija Kalyanotsava is expected to be formed during the meeting. Office-bearers of the Puthila Parivara Seva Trust were present during the two-day prayer programme.
Srinivasa Kalyanotsava held over the past three years had drawn large numbers of devotees. New programme is expected to bring together devotees for the proposed celebration of the divine wedding of Lord Shiva and Goddess Girija.
Further details regarding the date, programme schedule and arrangements are expected after the committee is formed.
