Puttur, 6 September 2026: Public grievances should be resolved within 21 days, and government services must reach people without unnecessary delays or middlemen, District In-charge Minister U.T. Khader Fareed said. He was speaking after inaugurating the Puttur Taluk-level Praja Seva Andolana at the Puttur Town Hall. Khader said government officials must work with patience and sensitivity while handling public issues.

“Work that remained pending for 20 to 30 years is now being taken up. The legal framework remains the same, and officials must introspect on why people's problems were delayed for so long,” he said. He stressed that officials should keep an open mind when dealing with applications and ensure that eligible citizens receive services within the legal framework.

Government Services Must Reach People

Khader said the Congress government is committed to ensuring that government services reach ordinary citizens. Programme has been organised based on the vision of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to take administration closer to the people, he said.

Applications should be processed transparently and without middlemen, while eligible works should be completed as quickly as possible within the law. He also said the Praja Seva initiative would continue at the hobli level so that people do not have to repeatedly travel to government offices for basic services. Khader further said work on the proposed medical college in the constituency would begin shortly and sought the cooperation of people for development initiatives.

MLA Ashok Kumar Rai: Focus on the Last Person

Presiding over the programme, Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai said the objective of Praja Seva is to ensure that government services reach people who are facing difficulties, particularly those at the grassroots level. He said efforts were being made to reduce the number of times citizens have to visit government offices to get their problems resolved.

“When the administrative machinery functions properly, justice can be delivered to people,” Rai said. He also praised Minister U.T. Khader's simplicity and accessibility, describing his experience of more than 25 years in public life as exemplary.

163 Applications Received

A total of 163 applications were received during the Praja Seva programme. Department-wise, the applications included:

  • Revenue Department: 61
  • Rural Development: 22
  • Survey Department: 20
  • Home Department: 13
  • Other departments: Remaining applications

Officials also received grievances directly from members of the public and distributed benefits under various government schemes to eligible beneficiaries. Programme provided an opportunity for residents to bring their issues directly before officials from different departments.

Panch Guarantee Implementation Committee Chairman Umanath Shetty, Deputy Commissioner Darshan, Superintendent of Police Dr. Arun K., Chief Executive Officer Narwade Vinayak Kharbari, Deputy Conservator of Forests Ravishankar, MESCOM Managing Director Harish Kumar, Assistant Commissioner Stella Varghese and Probationary IAS Officer Archit were among those present. Tahsildar S.B. Koodalagi welcomed the gathering, while Taluk Executive Officer Naveen Bhandari proposed the vote of thanks. Balakrishna Pordal and Srikala Karanth Erumbu compered the programme.
