Mumbai, 13 October 2026: Reliance Jio has introduced JioPC, a computer-as-a-subscription service designed to make computing more accessible to students, schools, colleges and skill development centres without requiring them to invest in a new computer.
Service provides access to a cloud-based computing environment through compatible existing computers, web browsers and televisions connected through compatible Jio set-top boxes. It aims to help users upgrade their computing experience while extending the usable life of their existing devices.
According to the company, JioPC is not limited to Jio subscribers. Users with other internet connections can also access the service through a browser, subject to an active subscription and compatible equipment.
JioPC Plans Start at ₹1,000
JioPC offers two configurations: an 8GB RAM plan with 500GB storage and a JioPC Ultra plan with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage. Subscription options announced by the company are:
| Validity | JioPC (8GB RAM, 500GB storage) | JioPC Ultra (16GB RAM, 1TB storage) |
|---|---|---|
| 2 months | ₹1,000 | ₹1,200 |
| 5 months | ₹2,000 | ₹2,500 |
| 10+2 months | ₹4,000 | ₹5,000 |
The 10+2-month plan provides 12 months of validity, subject to the applicable terms and conditions. Users can check the official JioPC website for current pricing and subscription details.
Designed for Students and Educational Institutions
For schools, colleges and skill development centres, the service offers an alternative to replacing entire computer laboratories with new hardware. Institutions may be able to use compatible existing devices to provide access to cloud-based computing resources.
Approach could help reduce initial hardware expenditure. However, institutions will need to consider internet connectivity, the number of users, software compatibility and recurring subscription costs before adopting the service.
Ubuntu Interface and Cloud Storage
JioPC comes with an Ubuntu-based Linux interface, LibreOffice and web browsers. It supports access to online applications such as Microsoft 365 and tools such as Adobe Express, subject to compatibility and the relevant application requirements.
Company says user data is stored in enterprise-grade cloud storage with disaster recovery. Its security approach is based on a Zero Trust model. Cloud-based storage allows users to access their computing environment across compatible devices. However, a reliable internet connection is important, and users should review the service's data protection and account security policies.
JioHome Customers May Get a Broadband Benefit
Eligible JioHome customers can redeem a ₹100-per-month voucher against their broadband bill, according to the company. The benefit is subject to eligibility requirements and applicable terms.
Can JioPC Replace a Laptop?
JioPC may suit students who need access to everyday computing and online educational applications without immediately purchasing a new computer.
However, it may not meet every user's requirements. Those who need offline computing, specialised Windows software or applications that require particular hardware should check compatibility before subscribing. Users should also compare the total subscription cost over time with the cost of purchasing and maintaining a conventional computer.
