Puttur, 19 October 2026: National Service Scheme (NSS) activities should become an integral part of students’ lives, encouraging them to contribute their knowledge, skills and resources to society without expecting anything in return, said Dr Ashwini S. Shetty, Professor of Anatomy and NSS Programme Coordinator at Yenepoya University.

She was speaking after inaugurating the annual activities of the National Service Scheme for the academic year 2026–27 at Vivekananda Law College, Puttur, by lighting the ceremonial lamp.

Dr Shetty said the NSS lays a strong foundation for a spirit of service among students. Its primary objective is to create social awareness through community service while fostering the personality development and all-round growth of student volunteers.

Describing the NSS as a bridge between the campus and society, she explained the different types of activities conducted under the programme and the opportunities they offer students to engage with the community.

Presiding over the programme, Arun B. K., a former student of Vivekananda Law College and member of its governing body, called upon law students to dedicate their time to the welfare of society.

He said both education and the NSS should inspire young people to make service a central purpose of life. Young people need not sacrifice their lives for the country, but dedicating their lives to the betterment of society can contribute significantly to its progress, he said.
