Ardra Nakshatra Twice in October: Special Seva at Puttur Mahalingeshwara Temple

Puttur 1 October 2026: With Ardra Nakshatra occurring twice in October, special religious services including Mrityunjaya Homa and Shuddha Sesame Oil Abhisheka will be held at the Mahathobara Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple, Puttur, on October 3 and October 31.

Temple management committee has informed devotees that those wishing to perform the Mrityunjaya Homa should obtain the service receipt at the temple counter. Devotees wishing to offer pure sesame oil (Shuddha Tila Taila) for the Abhisheka have also been requested to obtain the appropriate service receipt from the temple counter.

Temple Management Committee President Eshwara Bhat Panjigudde and Executive Officer K.V. Srinivas issued the information regarding the special services.

Why are there two dates in October?

Special services are being organised twice this month because Ardra Nakshatra occurs twice during October. For devotees who follow the temple's traditional calendar and worship practices, the two dates provide separate opportunities to participate in the services.

What is Ardra Nakshatra?

Ardra is one of the 27 nakshatras, or lunar constellations, traditionally used in the Indian astronomical and calendrical system. Significance attached to particular nakshatras can differ according to regional traditions, temples and religious practices. At Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple, the October dates are being observed with the specified special services.

What seva can devotees participate in?

Mrityunjaya Homa - Devotees wishing to perform the Mrityunjaya Homa can register for the service by obtaining a receipt at the temple counter.

Shuddha Sesame Oil Abhisheka - Devotees wishing to offer pure sesame oil for the Abhisheka can obtain the relevant service receipt at the temple counter.

A useful note for devotees

Those planning to participate should confirm the service timings, receipt availability, payment details and any other temple-specific arrangements directly with the temple before visiting.

Two dates are: October 3, 2026 - Saturday, October 31, 2026 - Saturday

For devotees in Puttur and surrounding areas, the two October observances offer an opportunity to participate in the temple's traditional religious services associated with Ardra Nakshatra.
