Uppinangady Autorickshaw Driver Stunned by Helmet Fine Meant for Two-Wheeler
Puttur, Sep 15: An autorickshaw driver from Uppinangady, Rohit, has received a fine notice for not wearing a helmet, issued by the Talakadu police in Mysuru. The notice, sent via SMS, claims that on September 12, 2024, at 3:18 pm, his vehicle with the number KA21B3862 was caught without a helmet at Talakadu Junction on Mysuru Road. The fine of ₹500 is stipulated under the Motor Vehicles Act (MVA).
However, Rohit, who operates an autorickshaw and does not own a two-wheeler, disputes the fine. He asserts that his vehicle was in Uppinangady on the specified date and time. Based on CCTV evidence, the notification was oddly received—unusual for such fines—on the same day as the purported crime.
For clarity, Rohit contacted the police stations in Talakadu and Uppinangady. The Talakadu police made it clear that they do not use a CCTV camera-based fine system, while the Uppinangady police instructed him to wait for a formal notification by mail. Because of this disparity, Rohit is beginning to wonder if the message is genuine or if it is phony.
