Mangaluru, June 10, 2025 – Residents of Mangaluru can now rely on a single, unified emergency helpline, Dial 112, to address a wide range of crises, from police assistance to fire emergencies and disaster response. Launched under the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS), this pan-India initiative simplifies access to help by replacing multiple emergency numbers like 100 (police), 101 (fire), and 108 (ambulance) with one easy-to-remember number, 112.

The Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate has fully embraced the Dial 112 system, operational in the city since December 2020, to ensure rapid response to emergencies such as murder, robbery, theft, extortion, burglary, domestic disputes, and issues involving women, children, or senior citizens. The system also allows residents to report suspicious vehicles or individuals, ensuring comprehensive public safety.

When a call is made to 112, it is received at a centralized Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) in Bengaluru. Trained personnel assess the nature of the emergency—whether it involves police, fire, or medical services—and dispatch the nearest available response team.

In Mangaluru, a fleet of 28 patrolling vehicles, including 21 Hoysala vehicles and 7 highway patrol vehicles, operates round-the-clock to provide immediate assistance, typically reaching the caller’s location within 10 minutes.
“This unified helpline is a game-changer for public safety,” said a Mangaluru City Police official. “Whether it’s a crime, fire, or disaster, Dial 112 ensures help is just a call away, 24/7.” The system also supports alternative methods of contact, including the 112 India mobile app, SMS, email to dial112@gov.in (mailto:dial112@gov.in), or by pressing the power button three times on a smartphone to trigger a panic call.

The Mangaluru City Police have been actively raising awareness about the Dial 112 service through community outreach. For instance, police personnel have engaged with construction workers, beachgoers, and nursing students to educate them on how to use the helpline effectively. Recent posts on X highlight the system’s efficiency, with Hoysala vehicles resolving issues like domestic disputes and public disturbances promptly after receiving 112 calls.

For residents, the helpline simplifies emergency response by eliminating the need to remember multiple numbers. “Dial 112 is a lifesaver. It’s reassuring to know help is just one call away, no matter the situation,” said Priya, a local resident. The service is free, accessible 24/7, and available in English, Hindi, and regional languages, ensuring inclusivity.

The Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate urges the public to use Dial 112 responsibly, as misuse can delay assistance for genuine emergencies. For more information or to access the service, visit 112.gov.in or download the 112 India app from Google Play or the Apple Store.
