Mangaluru: Yakshagana Lovers mourns the loss of Sadashiva Shetty Mundaje, a distinguished Yakshagana artist, who passed away at his residence on Saturday, June 7, 2025, due to a cardiac arrest. The 67-year-old veteran, celebrated for his versatility, left an indelible mark on the traditional art form of Yakshagana.

A Legacy in Yakshagana
Sadashiva Shetty Mundaje was a stalwart in both Kannada and Tulu Yakshagana, performing with renowned troupes such as Dharmastala, Karnataka, and Sasihitlu Yakshagana Melas. Known for his captivating portrayals, he excelled in diverse roles like “Raja,” “Pundu,” and “Natakiya,” enthralling audiences with his skill and charisma. For the past two decades, he was a key member of the Kateel Mela, where he also served as the manager of the third Mela, showcasing his leadership alongside his artistry.
Recent Health Struggles
Mundaje had recently undergone an angioplasty and was discharged from the hospital prior to his sudden passing. His untimely demise has left the Yakshagana community and his admirers in deep sorrow.
Tributes and Final Farewell
On Sunday, June 8, 2025, a large number of people gathered at Kadri Mallikatte ground in Mangaluru to pay their respects to the beloved artist. His last rites were performed at the Kadri crematorium on the same day, marking the end of an era for Yakshagana enthusiasts.
Sadashiva Shetty Mundaje’s contributions to the art form will continue to inspire generations. His legacy as a performer and manager will remain etched in the cultural fabric of Karnataka.
