Karnataka Cabinet Decisions: Wildlife Sanctuary, Health Cover, and Mango Farmer Relief

 Karnataka Cabinet Approves Mugali Coastal Wildlife Sanctuary, Health Scheme for Contract Workers

Bengaluru, June 19, 2025: In a significant move to bolster conservation, healthcare, and welfare, the Karnataka Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, announced a series of key decisions during its recent meeting. The cabinet approved the declaration of 5,959.322 hectares along the Honnavar coastline and forest area in Uttara Kannada district as the Mugali Coastal Wildlife Sanctuary, aimed at protecting the region’s rich biodiversity.

In a major relief for approximately three lakh contract, outsourcing, and honorarium-based government employees, the cabinet greenlit a cashless healthcare scheme under the Suvarna Arogya Suraksha Trust, offering up to Rs 5 lakh annually for medical expenses. This initiative will also extend to the dependents of these workers, ensuring comprehensive healthcare coverage.

The cabinet also addressed infrastructure and community welfare. It granted administrative approval for a Rs 12.87 crore revised estimate for the SPOC scheme and Rs 742 crore for the construction of the Anubhava Mantapa in Basavakalyan, Bidar district. Additionally, Rs 23.51 crore was approved for disaster relief projects under the State Disaster Mitigation Fund, including a high-level minor bridge near Shilalli village in Raichur’s Lingasugur taluk and a retaining wall for Rajnala in Hubballi city.

In a nod to cultural heritage, the cabinet decided to rename Basapur village in Haveri’s Hanagal taluk as Geruguttabasapur. Further, Rs 134.56 crore was approved for a bridge-cum-barrage project near Aryabhogapur village in Koppal’s Kushtagi taluk and the modernization of Kanakanala. In Raichur’s Sindhanur taluk, Rs 43.10 crore was allocated for constructing a weir across the Tungabhadra River near Channabasaveshwara (Olaballari) lift irrigation project.

To promote literacy, the cabinet approved a 50% concessional rate for allotting vacant land in Raichur’s Siyatalab layout to the Kurubara Sangha for building the Kanakadasa Public Library. Additionally, Rs 15.97 crore was sanctioned to provide primary healthcare services in remote and unconnected areas under the Health and Family Welfare Department.

In a progressive move, the cabinet increased the reservation for minority communities under various housing schemes from 10% to 15%, enhancing inclusivity in urban and rural housing projects.
The cabinet also held an extensive discussion on the plight of mango farmers, directing the Agriculture Minister to urge the Central government to provide relief to growers facing challenges.
These decisions reflect Karnataka’s commitment to balancing environmental conservation, infrastructure development, and social welfare while addressing the needs of diverse communities across the state.
