Passkey Login on Facebook: Everything You Need to Know in 2025
New Delhi, June 19, 2025: In a significant move to enhance user security, Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has announced the rollout of passkey login for its flagship social media platform and Messenger. This innovative authentication method, which replaces traditional passwords with biometric and device-based logins, is set to revolutionize how millions of users access their accounts globally.
“We’re introducing passkeys on Facebook for mobile devices, offering another tool to safeguard your privacy and security,” Meta stated in an official blog post. The company highlighted that passkeys, which utilize Face ID, fingerprint scans, or PINs, provide a safer and more convenient alternative to passwords, which are often vulnerable to phishing attacks and data breaches.
A passkey is a modern login solution that leverages your device’s security features. For instance, iPhone users can use Face ID, while Android users can opt for fingerprint authentication. The same passkey will work across Facebook and Messenger once the feature is fully rolled out in the coming months. This seamless integration aims to simplify the login process while offering robust protection against cyber threats.
Experts have long criticized passwords for being easy to forget, guess, or steal through phishing scams. Meta emphasized that passkeys are immune to such attacks, ensuring that even if a user clicks on a malicious link, their account remains secure. This shift is particularly timely as cybercrime continues to rise, with data breaches affecting millions worldwide.
The rollout has begun for mobile devices on iOS and Android, with support for popular browsers like Chrome and Safari. Users with compatible devices will soon see an option to set up a passkey during login. Once configured, future logins will require only a biometric scan or PIN, making the process faster and more intuitive.
