Puttur: BJP to Stage Statewide Protest on June 23 Against Congress’ Anti-People Policies |
Puttur, June 18, 2025: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka has announced a statewide dharna on June 23 to protest the Congress-led state government’s alleged anti-people policies. The decision was made during the ‘Vikasit Bharat Sankalp’ meeting held at Bharat Mata Sabhabhavana in Kallega, Puttur, on Tuesday, where BJP leaders lambasted the Siddaramaiah government for burdening citizens with rising costs and neglecting critical issues.
BJP Dakshina Kannada district president Satish Kumpala, who inaugurated the meeting, accused the Congress of causing widespread distress through policies that have left people grappling with shortages of essentials like sand and stone, delays in housing schemes, and unresolved land disputes. “The Congress government’s anti-people stance has pushed citizens into hardship. On June 23, BJP will hold protests outside every local administration office to voice public anger and prove we stand with the people,” Kumpala said.
Addressing the gathering, Kumpala highlighted specific grievances, including the government’s failure to process Form 9/11 applications, which has stalled housing construction for many. “Poor families are suffering due to the unavailability of sand and stone, and the Ashraya housing scheme is being ignored. The 9/11 issue has become a nightmare, preventing people from building homes,” he alleged.
Echoing these sentiments, Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta, speaking at a press conference in Mangaluru, accused the Congress government of complicating administrative processes and fostering corruption. “Form 9/11 applications are gathering dust in government offices, forcing people to run from pillar to post. The government’s rule requiring urban development authority approval for house designs has made simple processes needlessly complex,” Chowta said. He also criticized the government for not sanctioning new Ashraya homes in two years, hiking electricity tariffs, and threatening to cut old-age pension benefits under the guise of income limits.
The June 23 dharna, scheduled from 10 AM to 1 PM outside local administrative offices across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, aims to highlight these issues and demand accountability. BJP leaders, including former MLA Sanjeeva Matandoor, Mallika Prasad, and Puttur rural mandal president Dayananda Shetty Ujiremaru, attended the meeting, reinforcing the party’s commitment to addressing public grievances.
Other prominent BJP figures present included district vice-presidents Sunil Alva and Prasanna Kumar Marth, state secretary of the backward classes morcha R.C. Narayana, and local leaders Anil Tenkila, Umesh Kodibailu, and Sitarama Belalu. The party’s district coordinator Harish Kanjipili and general secretary Premananda Shetty also spoke, urging workers to ensure the protest’s success.
The BJP’s agitation comes amid growing public discontent over rising costs and administrative inefficiencies under the Congress government, setting the stage for a heated political showdown in Karnataka.
