Puttur: Heavy Rainfall Alert, Agromet Advisory for Dakshina Kannada, Udupi

 Mangaluru, June 27, 2025: An Orange Alert for heavy rainfall over the next two days has prompted agromet advisories for Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. Farmers are advised to postpone activities like spraying Bordeaux mixture for arecanut, coconut, black pepper, cashew, and mango for four days to prevent wastage. Paddy farmers should ensure proper drainage in nurseries to avoid seedling rot. Cattle grazing is discouraged, with recommendations for fodder crops like sorghum and maize. Vaccinations and deworming are advised for livestock.

Water management - As monsoon is progressing farmers can make proper drainage facilities to drain out excess rainwater from orchards to avoid infestation of Koleroga.

Arecanut (General advise): A Orange Alert has been issued for the next 02 days due to expected heavy rainfall.

Farmers are strongly advised to:

• Improve drainage facilities in their fields to prevent waterlogging and crop damage. 
• Postpone all agricultural activities, including the spraying of Bordeaux mixture, for the next four days to avoid wastage and ensure effectiveness. Taking timely precautions will help protect crops and reduce losses

Coconut  (General advise): A Orange Alert has been issued for the next 02 days due to expected heavy rainfall. Farmers are strongly advised to postpone all agricultural activities for next 04 days.

Black Pepper (wilt) : A Orange Alert has been issued for the next 02 days due to expected heavy rainfall. Farmers are strongly advised to postpone all agricultural activities for next 04 days.

Cashew (General advise): A Orange Alert has been issued for the next 02 days due to expected heavy rainfall. Farmers are strongly advised to postpone all agricultural activities for next 04 days.

Cashew (Stem Borer): A Orange Alert has been issued for the next 02 days due to expected heavy rainfall. Farmers are strongly advised to postpone all agricultural activities for next 04 days.

Mango(general advise) : A Orange Alert has been issued for the next 02 days due to expected heavy rainfall. Farmers are strongly advised to postpone all agricultural activities for next 04 days.

Nursery preparation & general advise: Farmers are advised to ensure proper drainage in seedbed areas to prevent water stagnation. Excess water accumulation can lead to rotting of seedlings, resulting in poor crop establishment. Taking preventive measures now will help safeguard your nursery and ensure healthy paddy transplantation

Paddy (Dapog/ Mat method nursery preparation) (per acre): 

A Orange Alert has been issued for the next 02 days, with a high chance of heavy rainfall expected for next 04 days. Farmers are advised to ensure proper supervision in seed trays to prevent water stagnation. Excess water accumulation can lead to rotting of seedlings, resulting in poor crop establishment. Taking preventive measures now will help safeguard your nursery and ensure healthy paddy transplantation.

Paddy (General Advise): Farmers who have already transplanted paddy in the main field are advised to postpone the application of weedicides, as good rainfall is expected over the next 4 days. Rainfall during this period may wash away the chemicals, reducing their effectiveness and increasing the risk of environmental contamination. 

Animal Husbandry

Cattle (General advise):A Orange Alert has been issued for the next 02 days due to expected heavy rainfall hence grazing of cattles outside is not recommended. The requirement of fodder can be met by growing Sorghum, Maize (African tall), Cowpea, Napier etc.., Avoid tying animals under tree or in any exposed area during lightning and thunderstorm. Vaccinate the animals for Hemorrhagic septicemia (HS) and Black quarter during June months.De worming should be done for all livestock’s. Balanced feed should be given for Milch animals to get high milk yield.
