Puttur, June 21, 2025: Sheenappa Naik, a respected member of the Puttur Nagar Sabha and a retired Syndicate Bank employee, breathed his last on Saturday at a private hospital in Mangaluru. The 67-year-old, a resident near Mukrampadi Anandashram, succumbed to illness, leaving behind a legacy of public service.
Naik, who represented the Aryapu ward, was elected as a councillor in the last municipal elections on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-backed ticket. Known for his dedication to civic issues, he earned admiration for his approachable demeanor and commitment to community welfare.
Before entering politics, Naik served as an employee of Syndicate Bank, retiring after a distinguished career. His transition to public life was marked by his active involvement in local governance, where he advocated for development in Puttur.
He is survived by his wife, a son, and two daughters—Shobha, an employee at Karnataka Bank’s Uppinangady branch, and Seema, who works at Union Bank in Mangaluru. The news of his demise has cast a pall of gloom over Puttur, with tributes pouring in from political leaders, colleagues, and residents.
Local BJP leaders expressed their condolences, highlighting Naik’s contributions to the party and the city. “His passing is a great loss to Puttur. He was a dedicated leader and a kind soul,” said a party spokesperson.
Naik’s funeral was held on Sunday, attended by a large number of mourners, including civic officials and community members. The Puttur Nagar Sabha is expected to hold a condolence meeting to honor his memory.
