BJP Backs Victim in Puttur Councillor’s Son Controversy, Promises Action

Puttur sexual assault case: BJP warns councillor N.K. Jagannivas Rao of action if promises are not met, reaffirming support for the victim’s justice.
Puttur, July 4, 2025: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued a stern warning to Puttur Nagar Sabha member N.K. Jagannivas Rao, urging him to fulfill promises made in a controversial case involving his son’s alleged sexual assault of a young woman. The party, alongside Hindu organizations, has reaffirmed its commitment to securing justice for the victim, emphasizing that failure to comply will result in disciplinary action against Rao.

BJP’s Firm Stance on Justice

In a press conference held in Puttur on Thursday, BJP district president Satish Kumpala clarified the party’s position, stating that both the BJP and its affiliated organizations stand firmly with the victim. “We have instructed Jagannivas Rao to honor the commitments made during discussions mediated by the local MLA. If he fails to comply, necessary action will be taken,” Kumpala said. The victim’s mother has demanded that Rao’s son marry her daughter, who is pregnant, to provide legitimacy to the child. Kumpala emphasized that the party supports this demand, stressing that the councillor’s son must take responsibility to prevent further injustice. The discussions, facilitated by the MLA, aimed to resolve the issue amicably without politicizing it, but the victim’s mother reported that the promises remain unfulfilled.

Hindu Organizations bats for Justice, Case against SDPI Protest

Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal leaders, led by Muralikrishna Hasantadka, visited the victim’s family to offer support, reiterating their commitment to justice. Hasantadka revealed that Rao’s son had initially agreed to a registered marriage after June 23 but later backtracked, even threatening self-harm. “We have not suggested abortion or offered money to settle the case. Our focus is on ensuring justice for the child and the victim,” he clarified.
Meanwhile, the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) staged a protest outside the Puttur Nagar Sabha on Wednesday, demanding justice for the victim. The police registered a case against SDPI leader Ashraf Bawu and others for holding an unauthorized protest, citing the use of loudspeakers without prior permission.

The case has sparked widespread attention, with the BJP and Hindu organizations vowing to pursue legal action if Rao’s family fails to address the victim’s demands. The victim’s mother, distancing herself from any organizational affiliations, stated, “I only want my child’s father to take responsibility.”
