Puttur BJP Issues Notice to P G Jagannivas Over Son’s Marriage Scam Controversy

P.G. Jagannivas, BJP leader and Puttur municipal council member, addressing a party event, now under scrutiny for a show-cause notice.

Puttur, July 9, 2025: Things just got messy for the Bharathiya Janata Party (BJP) in Puttur. They slapped a show-cause notice on P.G. Jagannivas Rao—you know, the ex-city mandal president who still sits on the municipal council—because, apparently, he’s landed the party in hot water. The drama? His son, Srikrishna J. Rao, got accused of stringing a woman along with promises of marriage, then left her pregnant, which of course blew up in public. Classic political scandal, right? The notice dropped on July 4, and honestly, you can almost hear the party folks trying to do damage control in the background.

According to the notice issued by Puttur BJP city mandal president Shivakumar, under the directive of the district BJP president, Jagannivas’s son allegedly engaged in an illicit relationship with a local woman, betraying her trust. The victim’s family has publicly accused Jagannivas of failing to act justly, raising concerns through a press conference in Puttur. The notice demands that Jagannivas provide justice to the victim and respond immediately, failing which the party may take disciplinary action to protect its reputation.
The case has attracted widespread media coverage. According to the victim’s family, Srikrishna initially promised to marry the woman, but later withdrew. The woman, a former classmate of Srikrishna, gave birth to a child on June 28 at a hospital in Puttur. She had filed a complaint at the Puttur women’s police station on June 24. Srikrishna was arrested on July 5, along with his father, Jagannivas, who was accused of helping his son avoid arrest. Both underwent medical examination and were produced before a magistrate, as confirmed by Superintendent of Police K. Arun.

Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai, who gave police a 48-hour ultimatum to arrest Srikrishna, met with the victim’s family to offer his support. The incident has sparked criticism from opposition parties, with Congress leaders accusing the BJP of hypocrisy—promoting cultural values while failing to address similar issues within its own ranks.

The BJP responded quickly, aiming to limit damage to its image, especially in Karnataka’s politically sensitive coastal region, where it holds significant support. The party has issued a notice to Jagannivas, warning him to adhere to its principles of justice and responsibility, or face further action.

Allegations and Arrests in Puttur Marriage Scam

Srikrishna J. Rao, son of BJP leader P.G. Jagannivas, has been accused of deceiving a woman with promises of marriage, which resulted in her pregnancy. Both Srikrishna and his father were arrested on July 5 after a police complaint was filed. The incident has sparked intense public and media attention.

BJP’s Response to Protect Party Image

In response, the BJP has issued a notice to Jagannivas, aiming to limit the fallout from the scandal. The party has called for swift action to ensure justice for the woman, underscoring its efforts to protect its reputation in Karnataka.
