Puttur, July 25, 2025: Unrelenting rains have lashed Puttur taluk and the surrounding Dakshina Kannada district, leading the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to predict further heavy precipitation. A red alert has been issued across the district due to significant rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours, prompting authorities to take precautionary measures to ensure public safety. Prioritizing the well-being of students, the Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner, Darshan H.V., has announced a district-wide closure of educational establishments for July 25, 2025. This mandatory holiday encompasses all government, aided, and private primary and secondary schools, as well as pre-university institutions and anganwadi centres. The directive also advises parents to keep children away from low-lying areas, riverbanks, and coastal zones to minimize exposure to potential dangers.

Karnataka Weather Today; Details of Red Alert and Safety Measures Initiated

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy rain accompanied by sustained winds reaching 30-40 kmph across coastal Karnataka, impacting regions such as Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts. Additionally, South interior Karnataka, comprising areas like Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Ballari, and Hassan, should anticipate significant downpours. Bengaluru and several surrounding districts, namely Chamarajanagara, Chikkaballapura, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara, and Tumakuru, are forecasted to receive light to moderate rainfall.

As a precautionary measure, fishermen are strictly advised to refrain from entering the sea. Tourists and residents are also urged to steer clear of riverbanks and coastal locations to ensure their safety. In preparation for any potential emergencies, district and taluk-level officials have been instructed to maintain a heightened state of alertness. Care centers have been established in every taluk, serving as shelters for those in need. Furthermore, these officials are tasked with setting up swift response mechanisms to address any public grievances that may arise.

To facilitate effective coordination during this critical period, nodal officers have been directed to remain in constant contact with the control room operated by the Deputy Commissioner's office. This proactive approach to disaster management aims to minimize risks and ensure the well-being of the populace in the affected regions.

Public Advised to Stay Cautious

In response to the ongoing threat of natural disasters, the district administration has initiated a toll-free helpline (1077) and a local emergency contact number (0824-2442590) for residents to report any issues arising from heavy rainfall. The authorities have underscored the importance of readiness and have established dedicated care facilities to cater to individuals impacted by possible flooding or other rain-induced incidents. The persistent rainfall has heightened anxieties concerning waterlogging and traffic congestion, especially in regions prone to such conditions. Citizens are strongly recommended to keep abreast of weather updates and adhere strictly to the safety protocols disseminated by the district administration.
