Tiptur Coconut Prices Hit Record ₹28,500/Quintal on July 14, 2025

TIPTUR, JULY 14, 2025: Coconut prices at Tiptur’s Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC)—yep, that’s Asia’s largest coconut market—just hit a record high of ₹28,500 per quintal. This news is definitely bringing some smiles to the faces of farmers in Tumakuru and the nearby areas. The minimum price is at ₹24,000 per quintal, with a modal price of about ₹26,000. And get this, they recorded arrivals of 2,731 quintals, which is around 6,361 bags! That is a pretty big deal, especially compared to the ₹26,167 per quintal peak we saw back on June 23, 2025. It really shows that there’s a solid demand for Tiptur’s top-notch edible copra.

A Turnaround from 2024’s Struggles

Now, let us take a moment to think about how different things were just a year ago. Back in 2024, copra prices took a nosedive, which was tough for farmers. Many had to rely on a government support price of just ₹12,000 per quintal, plus a little extra incentive of ₹1,500 from the state. Can you imagine standing in long lines just to register with NAFED to sell at those prices? What a hassle!

“This is a huge relief after last year’s hardships,” shared Suresh Gowda, a farmer from Belgarahalli. And honestly, he’s got a point. With the recent spike to ₹28,500 per quintal, driven by strong demand from North India and a bit of a supply crunch, farmers are finally seeing some financial relief. Tiptur’s copra is really something special—traders are saying it’s sweeter and better in quality compared to what they’re getting from Kerala and Tamil Nadu. So yeah, things are looking up for these farmers!

Supply Constraints and Auction Reforms Fuel Price Rise

Several causes have been credited for the price rise, including fewer coconut arrivals brought on by crop diseases, farmers preferring to sell tender coconuts for better returns, and some switching to arecanut growing. S.B. Nyamagoud, Secretary of Tiptur APMC, underlined how auction reforms enacted in November 2024 have reduced tender auctions in the market from three days (Monday, Wednesday, Saturday) to two days (Monday, Thursday). And now tender auctions done three days a week. Direct buyer engagement along with this change have let prices reflect crop grade, propelling rates from ₹20,900 per quintal on May 26 to ₹26,167 on June 23 and now to ₹28,500 on July 14 for 2,731 quintals. Still, farmers remain skeptical about problems including coconut diseases and dwindling tree counts, and they push for government assistance to preserve cultivation.
