Mangaluru, August 13, 2025: The state government has rolled out the restructured Weather-Based Crop Insurance Scheme for the 2025-26 Kharif and Rabi seasons to protect farmers from losses due to adverse weather conditions. In Dakshina Kannada, the scheme covers areca nut and black pepper crops, with TATA AIG appointed as the implementing insurance agency.

Registration Deadlines and Process

Farmers who have not availed crop loans must register by August 14, 2025, while those with crop loans (sanctioned or renewed by July 31, 2025) have until August 30, 2025, to enroll. Non-loanee farmers can register at banks where they hold savings accounts, while loanee farmers can approach their respective banks. Additionally, registrations are accepted at Common Service Centres (CSCs) and Grama One centres. The premium for areca nut is Rs 6,400 per hectare, and for black pepper, it is Rs 2,350 per hectare.
