Karnataka Press Photography Awards 2025

Mangaluru, August 6, 2025: The much-anticipated results of the statewide press photography contest, held in conjunction with the 50-year milestone of the Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists' Association's (DKWJA) Golden Jubilee, were unveiled earlier today. This event, which honed in on the realm of news photography, drew an impressive array of skilled photojournalists from every corner of Karnataka.

Eerappa Naikar, a photojournalist with Kannada Prabha from Hubballi, emerged as the victor in a recent photojournalism competition, securing the top honors for his mesmerizing submission. M.S. Basavanna of Kannada Prabha in Mysuru was close behind, claiming the second prize. Udayashankar, the Principal Photograher at The Indian Express, Mysuru, also distinguished himself by earning the third place. Moreover, the special jury took note of two exceptional images by M.S. Manjunath and Indrakumar Dastenavar, both from Prajavani in Bengaluru, granting them special mentions for their superb contributions to the field.

Awards Ceremony Today

The award presentation for the photography contest organized by the Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Association is set to take place on Wednesday, August 6th at the commencement of their Golden Jubilee celebration at Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall, Mangaluru. As per the announcement by Satish Ira, the competition's convener, the first-place winner will receive a cash prize of Rs 10,000 along with a commemorative plaque. The second and third place winners will be awarded with Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000 respectively, each accompanied by a plaque. This event is part of the association's 50th-anniversary festivities.

The competition focused on news photography, aiming to underscore the compelling nature of visual storytelling within the realm of journalism. This platform accentuated the pivotal role of photojournalists in immortalizing moments that encapsulate the vibrant tapestry of Karnataka's evolving social and cultural fabric.
