Puttur, August 7, 2025: As part of Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s (VHP) Foundation Day celebrations, the VHP Puttur District, Town Prakhand, Rural Prakhand, and Puttur Mosarukudike Utsav Committee will organize the 15th annual Puttur Mosarukudike Utsav and a grand procession on August 16 at the premises of Mahatobhara Shri Mahalingeshwara Temple, Puttur. The festivities will include a variety of competitions starting from the morning of August 16, with events like Matka-breaking contests, a grand procession, and cultural performances.
Additionally, a district-level kabaddi tournament is scheduled for August 9 at the Matta Arena, followed by a Krishna costume and conch-blowing competition on August 10. The events aim to promote cultural unity and patriotism through engaging activities for children and the public.
Puttur Mosarukudike Utsav 2025; Event Highlights
On August 16, the Mosarukudike Utsav will commence with the Uddakamba (pole-climbing) competition in the morning. A grand procession will start in the evening from Bolwar Shri Anjaneya Mantralaya, featuring a spectacular Krishna-themed chariot, cultural performances, and a daring Matka-breaking contest by Hindu youths. The procession will include traditional music with kombu-kahale, a talim performance by Chandralike Veeranjaneya Vyayama Shala, folk dance groups, Nasik bands, and other cultural troupes.
The Matka-breaking competition, held in memory of late Gurukrishna Sullya, will see young participants showcasing their skills along the main road, concluding at the temple premises. A formal program marking VHP’s Foundation Day will follow at 6:30 PM, with a keynote address by Bajrang Dal Karnataka South Province Coordinator Prabhanjan Surya. Notable guests include Mumbai entrepreneur Kanyan Sadashiv Shetty, Belthangady religious leader Kiran Chandra D. Pushpagiri, and Nidpalli Shri Brahmaragunda Renovation Committee Secretary Vijay Vikram Ramakunja. Winners of the Matka-breaking contest will receive cash prizes.
August 9, a kabaddi tournament in memory of late T. Radhakrishna Bhat will take place at the Shri Mahalingeshwara Temple premises from 10 AM. The event will feature invited student teams competing in a floodlit kabaddi match, followed by a formal program at 7 PM, chaired by Ashok Kumbla, General Secretary of the Public Shri Ganeshotsava Committee. Winners will receive cash prizes.

The event, inaugurated by Yeltimar Vijayalakshmi Shenai, will feature various contests, including a “Muddu Krishna” competition for children under two years, patriotic song contests, memory games, shot-put, Bhagavad Gita recitation, and Matka-breaking for both children and women. Women’s events include musical chairs, tug-of-war (8-member teams), and rangoli competitions. Cash prizes will be awarded to winners.

Speaking at a press conference, VHP Puttur Town Mandal President Damodar Patali emphasized that the Mosarukudike Utsav aims to foster national pride and cultural unity through engaging competitions.
