Hanur, July 27: In an initiative aimed at promoting indigenous cattle conservation and supporting rural livelihoods, 24 eligible beneficiaries received 48 indigenous cows (24 pairs) free of cost during the third phase of the Go Dana Satra programme held at Kaudalli Goshala in Hanur taluk on Sunday.

The programme was organised by Gouphala Trust of Sri Ramachandrapura Math in association with B.L. Sandeep of Bilagali, Mudigere taluk.

Speaking on the occasion, Bala Subrahmanya Bhat, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Gouphala Trust, said the initiative is being carried out with the blessings of Jagadguru Sri Shankaracharya Sri Sri Raghaveshwara Bharathi Mahaswamiji. He said the project has been designed to conserve and develop indigenous cattle breeds while encouraging traditional cattle rearing among rural families.

As part of the third phase of the programme, beneficiaries from Peddanapalya, Sulekobbe, Koppa, Kaudalli, and Shettahalli villages were each provided with a pair of indigenous cows. A total of 48 cows were distributed to 24 beneficiaries. Since the programme concluded in the evening, some recipients chose to keep the cattle at the goshala overnight and planned to take them home the following day.

He added that the trust's mission is to create greater awareness about the importance of indigenous cattle breeds and promote sustainable cattle rearing in villages.

Senior Math functionary Vishnumurthy, along with Rohit, Muttayya, Don Bosco, Nagaraju, and other volunteers, participated in the programme.
