Karnataka Neelam, Totapuri Mangoes Reach Maldives in First Air Export

Bengaluru, 31 July 2026: Karnataka's Neelam and Totapuri mangoes have been exported to the Maldives by air for the first time. The shipment was facilitated by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The one-tonne consignment was flagged off on July 30, 2026. It marks a major step in promoting Karnataka's late-season mango varieties in global markets.

The mangoes were sourced directly from farmers of Prakruthimaya Farmers Producer Company Ltd. in KGF Taluk, Kolar district. The export was handled by Ashwini A, Director of Ahalya Devi Ventures, a newly registered woman entrepreneur.

Farmers Earn More

The export brought more than 50% higher returns to farmers compared to conventional market sales. According to APEDA, direct procurement and access to international buyers helped farmers receive better prices. The initiative also encourages more farmers to adopt export-oriented farming practices.

Why These Mangoes Matter

Neelam mangoes are known for their sweet taste, rich aroma and juicy pulp. They are widely used in desserts, smoothies and beverages.

Totapuri mangoes are popular for their unique shape and sweet-tangy flavour. They are suitable for fresh consumption as well as processing into pulp and other products. Both varieties are harvested from late June to the end of July, helping extend India's mango export season beyond the peak harvest months.

Boost for Karnataka's Horticulture

APEDA said the shipment highlights the growing export potential of Karnataka's horticulture sector. It also shows how Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) are connecting farmers directly with international markets through organised sourcing and quality production.

The authority added that it will continue working with state governments, exporters, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) to expand export opportunities for premium Indian fruits.

The successful export is expected to encourage more farmers, exporters and agri-entrepreneurs to explore global markets for high-quality horticultural produce.
