Bengaluru, August 18, 2026: Former Karnataka School Education and Literacy Minister and former Tiptur MLA B.C. Nagesh has passed away.
The announcement was made by Doddangowda Hanamagowda Patil, Chief Whip of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, who expressed grief over Nagesh's death. According to the message, Nagesh's mortal remains will be kept for public viewing at Jagannath Bhavan in Bengaluru from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Wednesday. His last rites will be performed in Tiptur.
Two-time MLA from Tiptur
Nagesh represented the Tiptur Assembly constituency twice, first winning the seat in 2008 and returning to the Assembly from the constituency in 2018. He was defeated by Congress candidate K. Shadakshari in the 2023 Assembly election.
His political career was closely associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party. In August 2021, Nagesh joined the Basavaraj Bommai-led Karnataka Cabinet as Minister for School Education and Literacy and served in the position until the end of the BJP government's term in May 2023.

As Education Minister, Nagesh was at the centre of several major developments and debates involving Karnataka's school education system during his tenure.
His tenure included a period of considerable public and political discussion around school education policy and curriculum-related issues. He also continued to remain associated with Tiptur after his ministerial tenure, having represented the constituency for two terms.
