Mumbai, 28 August 2026: Your next Bharatgas LPG cylinder delivery could potentially bring groceries and household essentials to your doorstep as well.

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL), the parent company of Bharatgas, is exploring an e-commerce model that would use its extensive LPG distributor network and existing delivery infrastructure to deliver groceries, FMCG products and other household items along with LPG cylinders.

According to The Economic Times report on thursday, Initiative is part of BPCL's broader strategy to increase revenue from businesses beyond fuel. Company is looking to leverage its large customer base, retail outlets and last-mile LPG network to build a differentiated consumer ecosystem.

Under the proposed model, customers could order products through BPCL's digital platform, with selected Bharatgas LPG dealerships being used as fulfilment points. These locations could stock groceries, household essentials, FMCG products and consumer durables.

Products could then be delivered using the existing LPG distribution system, potentially allowing customers to receive their grocery orders along with their Bharatgas cylinder delivery.

Bharatgas Network at the Centre

Strategy gives BPCL an opportunity to use an infrastructure that already reaches millions of households. Rather than building an entirely separate delivery network, the company can potentially utilise its Bharatgas distributors, delivery personnel and existing customer relationships to expand into household commerce.

Pilot projects are reportedly being undertaken in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. Initiative is still at an early stage and has faced competition from established quick-commerce and e-commerce companies. Pilot has reportedly shown promise, although the volumes generated so far have not reached initial expectations.

Can LPG Delivery Compete With Quick Commerce?

BPCL faces strong competition from established platforms such as Zepto, Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart and other e-commerce players. However, the company believes its extensive LPG network could provide an advantage, particularly in smaller towns and markets where quick-commerce services have limited reach

Existing relationship between Bharatgas distributors and household customers could also help BPCL build trust for the new service.

BPCL Also Plans Payment Platform

Alongside the e-commerce initiative, BPCL is also exploring its own payment gateway, which is expected to be integrated with the Hello BPCL app. Proposed platform could allow customers to make digital payments when transacting at BPCL retail outlets, creating another avenue for the company to participate in digital commerce.

BPCL has also been upgrading its In&Out stores at petrol pumps, along with café formats, customer amenities and loyalty programmes, as it seeks to transform fuel stations into broader mobility and lifestyle destinations.

For consumers, the bigger change could be the convergence of LPG delivery, grocery shopping and digital payments on one ecosystem. If the pilot model succeeds, a Bharatgas delivery that currently brings only an LPG cylinder could eventually become an opportunity to deliver everyday household products at the same time.
