Bengaluru, August 18, 2026: Karnataka government has constituted a Cabinet Sub-Committee to examine whether the revised minimum wage rates notified by the Labour Department on May 22, 2026, are in accordance with the Code on Wages, 2019.
Decision was taken following the State Cabinet meeting held on August 13, 2026, according to an official memorandum issued by the Karnataka Government Secretariat on Tuesday. Deputy Chief Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara has been appointed chairman of the eight-member committee. Labour and Employment Minister Santosh Lad is among the members.
Other members are Industries and Infrastructure Development Minister M.B. Patil, IT-BT and e-Governance Minister Priyank Kharge, Health and Family Welfare and Minority Welfare Minister U.T. Khader, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa, Small Industries and Public Enterprises Minister Vijayanand Kashappanavar, and Urban Development Minister H.C. Balakrishna.
Committee has been specifically tasked with examining whether the provisions contained in the Labour Department's May 22 minimum wage notification comply with the Central government's Code on Wages, 2019. Memorandum states that the Labour Department will provide the necessary assistance to the Cabinet Sub-Committee in carrying out the review.
Development comes amid continuing attention on minimum wages and their implications for workers and employers across Karnataka. Committee's review could have implications for establishments covered by the state's minimum-wage framework, depending on its findings and any subsequent government decision.
