PutturAugust 18, 2026: Technology skills can help students find employment, but responsible use of technology and strong values are equally important, St Philomena College (Autonomous), Puttur, Principal Rev. Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro told students at the inauguration of the Pinnacle IT Club activities for 2026–27.

Annual activities of the student platform of the Department of Computer Science were inaugurated at the college's Silver Jubilee Auditorium. Dr. Monteiro, who presided over the programme, said students should make full use of the learning opportunities available on campus.

Technology, he said, should not be viewed only as a means of securing a job, but also as a tool that can be used responsibly for the benefit of society. “Skills may lead you towards employment, but values and responsible conduct shape you into better human beings,” he said.

He encouraged students to develop both professional competence and a sense of social responsibility.

‘One should never stop learning’

Pranitha K.S., an alumna of St Philomena College and Vice-President of Karnataka Cyber Guardian, was the chief guest. Speaking about the rapidly changing technology sector, she stressed the importance of continuous learning and keeping up with emerging technologies.

“Continuous learning is the key to success,” she said, encouraging students to acquire new skills, remain aware of cybersecurity issues and approach future opportunities with confidence.

She also advised students to make effective use of the learning resources available at the college and consider obtaining relevant professional certifications. Building a strong professional profile, she said, would help students prepare for future employment opportunities. “One should never stop learning,” she added.
