Puttur, August 27: Candidates who were allotted seats in the second round of UGCET-2026 but do not wish to select Choice-1 and want to participate in the third round can now cancel their allotted seats online, the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has said.

The online seat cancellation facility will be available from 3 pm on August 27 to 3 pm on August 29, 2026. Candidates who wish to cancel their second-round seats must log in to the KEA portal and pay a ₹5,000 penalty. They do not need to visit the KEA office in person for cancellation.

Facility applies to candidates allotted seats in courses including Engineering, Architecture, Yoga and Naturopathy, Agricultural Science, Veterinary Science, B.Sc Nursing, B.Pharm, Pharm-D, BPT, BPO and Allied Health Science courses.

KEA had announced the final results of the second-round seat allotment on August 24. Candidates allotted seats were given the option to select Choice-1 or Choice-4 between August 25 and 27 and complete fee payment and admission by August 28.

What candidates need to know

Candidates who select Choice-1 must take admission to the allotted seat. However, those who want an upgrade can participate in the third-round seat allotment by logging into the portal when the third-round schedule is announced.

Candidates who do not want to select Choice-1 but wish to participate in the third round must first cancel their second-round allotted seat by paying the ₹5,000 penalty. They can then participate in the next round by logging in and paying the applicable fresh registration fee.

KEA clarified that such candidates can complete the cancellation entirely online and do not need to visit the KEA office.

Important note on Medical and Dental options

KEA has also advised candidates who entered options for Medical and Dental courses but were not allotted a Medical or Dental seat in the second round to consider Choice-4 if they are not satisfied with the seat allotted in another course.

Even after selecting Choice-4, candidates who had entered Medical/Dental options can continue to participate in the second round of Medical and Dental seat allotment, according to KEA.

The information was issued by H. Prasanna, IAS, Executive Director, Karnataka Examinations Authority, in an updated notification dated August 27, 2026.
