Kalaburagi, 17 September 2026: Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced a series of initiatives focusing on economic growth, agricultural value addition, healthcare, infrastructure, tourism, sports and environmental sustainability during the Kalyana Karnataka Utsav.
Announcements, shared by Minister Priyank Kharge, include the proposed establishment of the Kalyana Karnataka Economy Mission, a Bio Economy Mission, an anti-anaemia campaign and several infrastructure projects in Kalaburagi.
Key Announcements
1. Kalyana Karnataka Economy Mission (KKEM)
Government will establish the Kalyana Karnataka Economy Mission as a Section 8 company to accelerate industrial growth and investment in the region. Mission is intended to attract large-scale investments and create new economic opportunities.
2. Bio Economy Mission
A Bio Economy Mission will be established to increase farmers’ income through agricultural processing and value addition. Initiative will focus on regional products such as tur dal, Kamalapur bananas, raisins and millets.
3. Special Anti-Anaemia Campaign
A special two-year campaign will be undertaken to reduce anaemia through screening, prevention and treatment. Pregnant women, adolescents and lactating mothers will receive particular attention.
4. Infrastructure Development in Kalaburagi
A flyover will be constructed on the Sedam Road ring road to improve traffic movement in the rapidly growing city. A new peripheral ring road is also being planned, with its Detailed Project Report (DPR) under preparation. In addition, a new lake and recreational park will be developed at an estimated cost of ₹30 crore as a major green and public leisure space for the city.
5. 50,000 Housing Sites for Landless Families
As part of the government’s stated commitment to inclusive development, 50,000 residential sites will be developed in Kalaburagi district for families without housing sites.
6. IT Park and KRIYA
An IT park will be developed on 30 acres in Kalaburagi to expand the growth of the technology and innovation sectors beyond Bengaluru.Government will also establish KRIYA - Kalaburagi Research, Innovation and Youth Accelerator - to promote innovation, startups and young entrepreneurs.
7. AI-Based CCTV Network
An AI-based CCTV network will be introduced in Kalaburagi city and taluk headquarters to strengthen public safety, crime prevention and traffic management. The network will also be used to monitor civic services provided by urban local bodies, including waste management.
8. Tourism and Heritage Development
A pilgrimage and tourism circuit connecting Kalaburagi Fort, Sharana Basaveshwara Temple, Khwaja Bande Nawaz Dargah, Buddha Vihara, Malkhed, Sannati and Ganagapur will be developed.
Heritage sites at Malkhed, Nagavi, Kalagi and Sannati are also being redeveloped through Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board (KKRDB) funds. Ganagapur will be developed in the first phase at an estimated cost of ₹50 crore. A Vachana Mantapa will also be established in Kalaburagi to introduce the philosophy of Basavanna and the Vachana tradition to younger generations.
9. Sports Infrastructure
The Chandrashekhar Patil Stadium will be comprehensively redeveloped with modern sports infrastructure over the next two years. Government will enter into an agreement with the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) to develop cricket facilities benefiting the wider Kalyana Karnataka region. A “Sports City” will be established at Hadgil Haruti village in Kalaburagi taluk, featuring international-standard indoor and outdoor facilities for various sports.
10. Koti Vruksha Campaign
A Koti Vruksha campaign will be undertaken across the Kalyana Karnataka region over the next two years to expand green cover and strengthen climate resilience. Campaign aims to plant and nurture one crore saplings. Announcements place emphasis on investment, employment opportunities, agricultural value addition, public infrastructure, social welfare and sustainable development in Kalyana Karnataka.
