Tulu language recognition
Recognition of Tulu as an additional State language remains one of the prominent demands from coastal Karnataka. Public representatives and various organisations have repeatedly urged the State Government to act on the demand. The issue has also been raised in the legislature.
A State-appointed committee had studied language recognition procedures in Andhra Pradesh and submitted its report. Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai has also raised the matter with the Chief Minister. Whether a decision on Tulu will be taken at the September 18 meeting has not been officially confirmed.
Separate coastal tourism policy
State Government has also proposed a separate tourism policy for coastal Karnataka, with an emphasis on developing the coastline's tourism and eco-tourism potential. Karnataka's coastline extends across Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada. Stakeholders have sought improved tourism infrastructure and better utilisation of the region's natural and coastal resources.

Karntaka Cabinet meeting comes amid demands for greater investment in:

- Industrial development and investment
- Port infrastructure and connectivity
- Mangaluru International Airport-related infrastructure
- Coastal tourism
Kasturirangan report, environmental concerns and issues affecting communities in the Western Ghats also remain important regional subjects.
September 18 meeting will be closely watched for decisions affecting the three coastal districts. Key question will be whether the government announces specific projects, funding and administrative approvals for the region. Final Cabinet agenda and decisions will establish which of the coastal demands receive government approval.
