Bengaluru, 22 September 2026: Karnataka government has approved the direct recruitment of 814 lecturers for government Pre-University colleges across the state. Recruitment includes 778 posts in the Residual Parent Cadre (NKK) and 36 posts reserved for the Kalyana Karnataka (KK) region. Government issued the order on September 19, 2026.
814 Posts Across 13 Subjects
Vacancies are spread across various subjects, including languages, social sciences, commerce and science subjects. According to the government order, the posts include:
- Kannada – 89
- English – 145
- History – 50
- Economics – 90
- Political Science – 25
- Sociology – 25
- Geography – 10
- Commerce – 150
- Physics – 40
- Chemistry – 30
- Mathematics – 30
- Biology – 40
- Computer Science – 110
Total comes to 814 posts, comprising 778 NKK posts and 36 KK posts.
KEA to Conduct Recruitment
Government has designated the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) as the recruitment authority for filling the 814 lecturer posts through direct recruitment. Decision follows amendments made to the recruitment rules for lecturers in the School Education (Pre-University) Department.
Earlier, the rules had specified the Karnataka Examinations Authority for conducting the competitive examination. An amendment issued in October 2024 changed this provision to allow the government to specify the authority. Latest order now specifically identifies KEA for the recruitment process.
Opportunity to Teach Classes 9 and 10
Government has also referred to an amendment issued on July 14, 2026. Amendment allows Pre-University lecturers to undertake teaching for Classes 9 and 10 under the applicable service rules.
Government has directed that this amendment should also apply to the 814 lecturer posts covered by the latest recruitment approval. KEA has been instructed to take steps to issue the recruitment notification.
Recruitment Notification Next
With KEA designated as the recruitment authority, the next major step will be the official recruitment notification, which will provide details such as eligibility, subject-wise vacancies, reservation, examination pattern and application dates. Government order covers both the NKK and Kalyana Karnataka regions and 13 subjects.
