Puttur, 22 September 2026: Every citizen above the age of 18 should register as a voter and exercise their voting right responsibly, said Puttur Taluk Panchayat Chief Executive Officer and SVEEP Committee Nodal Officer Naveen Kumar Bhandari.
He was speaking at a special young voter registration and awareness campaign held at Vivekananda College of Arts, Science and Commerce (Autonomous), Puttur, on Monday.
Bhandari said the right to vote is one of the important rights guaranteed by the Constitution. Citizens should also understand how public money is being used by the government. He urged young voters to participate in elections without coming under any pressure. They should learn about the candidates and make an informed choice while voting, he said.
“Voting is not only our right but also our responsibility,” Bhandari said. He added that every vote has an important role in the functioning of a democracy. Citizens should exercise their voting rights responsibly and contribute to strengthening democracy.
College Principal Prof. Srikrishna Ganaraja Bhat S., who presided over the programme, said every citizen has an important role in building a good and stable government through voting. He urged young voters to understand the importance of their voting rights and participate actively in the democratic process.
Programme was jointly organised by the college's Electoral Literacy Club, Rovers and Rangers Unit, NCC and IQAC. Following the programme, a voter registration drive was conducted on the college campus. Electoral Literacy Club Coordinator and Department of Business Administration lecturer Deepika S. was present.
History Department Head Dr. Pramod M.G. welcomed the gathering. Commerce lecturer Bhagyashree proposed the vote of thanks. Second-year Arts students Dhanyashree and Shivani compered the programme.
