Puttur, 26 September 2026: A free rabies vaccination camp for dogs was organised at Nidpalli Gram Panchayat on September 24. Program was jointly organised by Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Mangaluru and Puttur, Panaje Veterinary Hospital, and Mahatma Gandhi Nidpalli Gram Panchayat.
Veerappa, In-charge Livestock Officer at Panaje Veterinary Hospital, inaugurated the camp by lighting the lamp and vaccinating a dog. Junior Veterinary Inspector Rohith administered the vaccines. Contract employee Pradeep and Nidpalli village Pashu Sakhi Tejaswini M. assisted in the programme. Nidpalli Gram Panchayat Secretary Shivaram Moolya welcomed the gathering and proposed the vote of thanks.
Staff members Vineeth Kumar, Revathi and Jayakumari, along with librarian Pavithra, also supported the programme. Following the inauguration, similar vaccination camps were conducted at different locations.
A total of 245 dogs and two cats were vaccinated during the camps. Program aimed to support rabies prevention among animals and encourage responsible pet and community animal care.

Rabies is a serious viral disease that can spread from infected animals to people, mainly through bites or scratches. Vaccinating dogs is an important way to reduce the risk of rabies in the community. Regular vaccination also helps protect pets and other animals.
