New Delhi, 7 September 2026: Rural domestic LPG consumers can now book a refill after a 25-day gap instead of the earlier 45 days, following a decision by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. Revised inter-refill booking interval takes effect immediately from September 7, 2026, and will apply uniformly to domestic LPG consumers in rural and urban areas.

Ministry, in a communication to Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL), said the decision was taken following an improvement in the LPG supply position and a considerable reduction in refill backlogs. 45-day booking interval for rural consumers was introduced as a temporary demand-management measure during supply concerns following the outbreak of the conflict in the Middle East in February 2026.

At that time, the Ministry had prescribed a 25-day interval for urban consumers and 45 days for rural consumers. Latest order removes that distinction.

Rural booking gap cut by 20 days

For rural households, the change means the inter-refill booking interval has been reduced by 20 days. Under the new rule:

  • Rural consumers: 25 days, instead of 45
  • Urban consumers: 25 days

Ministry has directed the three oil marketing companies to implement the revised interval with immediate effect. Order refers to the booking interval between LPG refills. It does not mean that every cylinder will necessarily be delivered exactly 25 days after the previous delivery, as delivery continues to depend on distribution and logistical arrangements.

Ministry said the revised rule follows the improvement in LPG availability and the reduction in refill backlogs compared with the situation when the earlier restrictions were introduced. For rural LPG users, the immediate change is therefore a shorter waiting period for booking their next domestic cylinder.
