Puttur, 6 September 2026: Sri Krishna Janmashtami was celebrated with devotion and enthusiasm at Ambika Pre-University College, Bappalige, run by the Nattoja Foundation Trust, on Friday.
Speaking as the chief guest, Sanskrit lecturer Savitri Shastri said the life of Lord Krishna and the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita continue to hold relevance in contemporary society. She said Lord Krishna represents dharma, truth, duty, love, friendship and human values. The essence of his teachings is to face difficulties with courage and perform one's responsibilities with sincerity, she said.
Addressing the students, Savitri Shastri encouraged them to understand Indian culture and traditions and incorporate the good values received from elders into their daily lives. She said the Bhagavad Gita and other ancient Indian texts have introduced India's philosophy of life to the world. Understanding these works can help students develop pride in their cultural heritage while also strengthening ethical and moral values, she said.
Gita is a guide to life
Presiding over the programme, Rajashree S. Nattoja, secretary of Ambika Group of Educational Institutions, said the Bhagavad Gita emerged from Lord Krishna's teachings to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra.
Gita should not be viewed merely as a religious text, she said, describing it as a timeless philosophy that offers guidance on how to approach life. She explained how Arjuna faced a moral dilemma when he found himself having to fight against his own relatives. Lord Krishna guided him on duty, dharma, self-knowledge, karma, devotion, wisdom and equanimity. Message that a person should perform their duty sincerely without excessive attachment or anxiety about the results remains relevant even in modern life, Rajashree S. Nattoja said.
Bhajans add devotional atmosphere
A bhajana programme was one of the highlights of the celebration. Students and teachers participated in singing devotional songs in remembrance of Lord Krishna. Devotional singing created a spiritual atmosphere at the institution. Various competitions were also organised for children as part of the Janmashtami celebrations. Madike-Odeyuva event was a special attraction and drew the attention of the students and participants.

Principal Ganesh Prasad D.S. was present on the occasion. Students Dhatri and Sinchana recited verses from the Bhagavad Gita. Student Bhushith welcomed the guests and dignitaries, while Nidarshana compered the programme. Student Sreeram S.J. proposed the vote of thanks. Celebration brought together students and teachers in a programme that combined devotion, cultural awareness and messages on values and responsible living.
