Vitla, 3 September 2026: Members of the Vitla Town Panchayat have urged the civic body to prevent unauthorised construction within the town limits and take immediate action to remove unauthorised shops and encroachments.
Issue was raised during the general meeting of the Vitla Town Panchayat held at the Town Panchayat meeting hall under the chairmanship of president Karunakara Naidatu. Member Arun Vitla highlighted the seriousness of unauthorised constructions and related issues in the town. Other members supported his concerns and urged the authorities to take corrective measures.
Town Panchayat Chief Officer Karunakara V. said that notices would be issued and appropriate legal action taken if violations were found. However, members insisted that action should begin immediately against an alleged unauthorised construction on Puttur Road, where pillars were reportedly being erected and an attempt was allegedly being made to extend the construction up to the main road. They urged the authorities to first stop the work and subsequently issue notices and initiate legal proceedings.
President Karunakara Naidatur assured the members that the matter would be inspected and appropriate action taken.
Staff for sanitation and waste management
Meeting was also informed that the Town Panchayat would appoint the required number of workers on a contractual basis, within its financial capacity, to strengthen sanitation and waste management activities.
President, members of the ruling group and Opposition members also condemned what they described as attempts to mislead the public through press conferences and statements by contractor Mahesh Das, who was earlier blacklisted following a unanimous resolution of the Town Panchayat.
Discussions on civic matters
Meeting discussed preparations for Civic Workers’ Day, shop licences and the tendering process for various development works. Decisions were taken on the matters placed before the house.
Bharat Jodo application process
Chief Officer Karunakara V. said the application process for Bharat Jodo was underway and that the public should be informed about the initiative. He said the organisation could benefit young people and that government grants would be available through it, potentially supporting village development. He described it as a non-political organisation and said anyone could join.
Voter list revision
Chief Officer also provided information on the SIR (Special Intensive Revision) process. He said the first phase had been completed and that citizens now had an opportunity to seek corrections in the electoral rolls.
A total of 18 booths have been established in Vitla, he said. Notices would be issued to voters in cases where issues were identified in the electoral roll. Citizens who find discrepancies can approach the concerned booth with the necessary documents for correction, he added.
Vice-President Sangeetha Panemajalu, Standing Committee Chairman Ashok Kumar Shetty, Chief Officer Karunakara V., Junior Engineer Manoj Kumar and Health Inspector Ramachandra were present.
Members Arun Vitla, Harish C.H., C.H. Jayanth, Rakshith, K. Vasanth, Vijayalakshmi, Raviprakash, Ashraf V.K.M., Abdul Rahiman, Sunitha, N. Krishna, Paddini, Sakira and Deekayya Surulimoolay, along with nominated members Itbal Honest, Srinivasa Shetty Kolya and Sunitha Kotian, among others, attended the meeting.
