Puttur, 12 September 2026: Young people should aim not only for personal success but also for the development of society and the nation, drawing inspiration from the ideals and teachings of Swami Vivekananda, said thinker and renowned speaker Chakravarthy Sulibele.

He was speaking at the ‘Viveka Vijaya’ special lecture organised at Vivekananda Pre-University College, Puttur, on September 11 to mark the 133rd anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s historic address at the World’s Parliament of Religions in Chicago.

Emphasising India’s intellectual and spiritual heritage, Sulibele said the country possessed a rich knowledge tradition that had the potential to influence the world. Swami Vivekananda, he said, played a significant role in presenting this heritage and its spiritual message to the global community.

He urged students to draw inspiration from such personalities and develop a broader sense of purpose. Personal growth, he said, should go hand in hand with responsibility towards society and the country.

Sulibele also stressed the importance of Indian values, humanity and universal brotherhood, saying that Indian identity should not remain merely a label but should be reflected in everyday conduct and social responsibility.

Confidence, Knowledge and Discipline

Vijayanarayana K. M., secretary of the Vivekananda Vidyavardhaka Sangha, inaugurated the programme by lighting the ceremonial lamp. He said students should channel their youthful energy towards self-confidence, knowledge, discipline and nation-building. “Youthful energy is the strength for achievement, rational thinking provides direction, and wisdom is the path to victory,” he said.

Chief guest Keshan Amai, proprietor of S.R.K. Ladders, Puttur, said it was important to nurture awareness of Indian culture, traditions and values among adolescents and develop a sense of pride in the country’s heritage.

Ravindra P., president of the college’s governing body and director of the Vivekananda Vidyavardhaka Sangha, and Principal M. Devicharan Rai were present.

Dr. K. N. Subrahmanya, director of the college’s governing body, Dr. Krishna Prasanna K., teaching and non-teaching staff, and students attended the programme.

Event began with students presenting a motivational song and a Viveka Geetha tribute. Second PUC student Hansini offered the prayer. Ravindra P. delivered the introductory address and welcomed the gathering. Lecturer Dr. Sneha B. S. compered the programme and proposed the vote of thanks.
