Puttur, 4 November 2026: National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Vivekananda Law College, Puttur, organized a special lecture and pledge-taking program as part of Vigilance Awareness Week to promote awareness against corruption.
Pramod Kumar B., Deputy Superintendent of Police, Puttur Sub-Division, attended as the resource person. He administered the anti-corruption pledge and delivered a lecture on ‘Rules for Preventing Corruption in Administration’. During his address, Pramod Kumar explained that corruption is not limited to monetary transactions or accepting bribes. It can weaken the entire social and administrative system and affect the dignity and well-being of ordinary citizens.
He pointed out that when farmers are forced to make repeated visits to government offices for basic documents, or senior citizens struggle to obtain their pensions, they lose valuable time and face unnecessary hardship. Such administrative failures can also undermine public trust in government institutions. He further observed that corruption in education and employment can deprive deserving students and young people of opportunities, affecting their future.
Emphasising prevention, he said strengthening administrative systems to prevent corruption should be a priority rather than taking action only after irregularities occur. Public officials must perform their duties honestly and voluntarily work for the welfare of citizens.
He urged students to understand anti-corruption laws and recognize their responsibility as informed citizens. Vigilance, he said, should not be limited to one week of observance but should remain a year-round commitment. He also explained various anti-corruption laws in force in the country and interacted with students.
Honesty Is the Foundation of Character
Yashodhar Jain, Treasurer of the Governing Council of Vivekananda Law College, presided over the program. In his presidential address, he said honesty is not merely a personal quality but the foundation of character and a guide to ethical values. He noted that government employees have a major responsibility to use limited public resources effectively and serve people sincerely.
He called upon citizens to play an active role in building a corruption-free society. Lakshmikantha Rai Anikootel, Assistant Professor of Political Science and NSS Program Officer, delivered the introductory remarks. Dr Akshatha A. P., Principal of Vivekananda Law College, and Malavika H. V., Assistant Professor of Law and NSS Program Officer, were present on the dais.
NSS student leader Roshin welcomed the gathering. Prananya Kamath proposed the vote of thanks, while Keerthi K. R. compered the program. Members of the governing council, advocates, Parent-Teacher Association members, alumni association members, teaching and non-teaching staff, and students attended the program.
